Your crosslister is hiding how slowly things really sell. Here's how to see the truth
Crosslisting tools relist items every 90 days, so everything looks new. Linking each relist back to the one physical item shows real days to sell by brand, category and marketplace.
What happened in our store
Honest sell-through numbers per category; the death pile becomes visible
- Time to set up
- A few days
- Cost
- Free, no marketplace calls of its own
The problem
Automatic relisting resets the clock. Your "new" listing has been for sale since spring and the reports do not know.
The workflow
- Read the listing ledger, sales log and the crosslister's state files that already exist. No new marketplace calls.
- Join relists by matching end time to start time, title and SKU. One record per physical item.
- Date a sale by when the eBay listing actually ended, not when the crosslister noticed.
- When the join is wrong, the seller marks "not the same item" once and it stays marked.
- Reports: days to sell by category and platform, what is oldest right now, and what never sold anywhere.
What happened
Categories that looked fine on paper turned out to average months to sell once relists were joined. Sourcing shifted toward what actually moves.
For your store
Our honest estimate from running this. Your store and numbers will differ.
- What you need
- A crosslister that keeps relist records, and a spreadsheet. The automatic version needs someone who can run a script.
- First try takes
- An evening by hand for one category. A few days to automate.
- First step tonight
- Pick your biggest category. For every unsold item in it, write down the date you first listed it anywhere, not the date of its latest relist.
- After a week
- You will know how long that category really takes to sell. Expect a surprise or two in categories you thought were fine.
