We shot 40 items in a row and never sorted a single photo. Here's how
Photograph everything in one session, drop the photos in a folder, and an AI groups them by item, crops them and tells you which items are missing a front, back, tag or measurement shot.
What happened in our store
A 40-item photo session becomes 40 draft galleries without touching a photo
- Time to set up
- A week to get grouping reliable
- Cost
- A few cents per item in model usage
- Tools
- Claude, Claude Code
The problem
Sorting photos into items is the most boring job in reselling, and it is where photos go missing.
The workflow
- Photograph items back to back in a consistent order: front, back, tag, details, measurements with a ruler.
- Save the whole session to one folder. No renaming, no albums.
- The agent looks at every photo in order and groups consecutive shots into items, using the size tag and garment as the signal for where one item ends.
- It flags neighbours that share a size tag (possible split item) and any item without a front view, back view, tag or measurement shot, so the seller checks those first.
- Each measurement photo is labelled (chest, length, sleeve, waist, inseam) before any number is read from it. This stops a bottom-width shot being read as a chest.
- Crops are made from the originals and the originals are never replaced.
What happened
Sorting went from an evening to a review of the flagged items only. The split-item warning catches the main failure, a snowsuit and a vest with the same size tag ending up as one item.
For your store
Our honest estimate from running this. Your store and numbers will differ.
- What you need
- Your phone camera and a fixed shooting order. Automatic grouping needs an AI that can read photos and someone who can run a script.
- First try takes
- Nothing to change how you shoot. About a week to get automatic grouping reliable.
- First step tonight
- At your next photo session, shoot every item in the same order: front, back, tag, details, then measurements with a ruler.
- After a week
- Faster sorting even without any AI, and you can see at a glance which items are missing a tag or measurement shot.
